Response to Swift

What is the problem that Swift identifies in his society?  What does he want to do about it?
 ~ In  A Modest Proposal Swift identifies the problem in society as the population of the poor seems to be multiplying more then they can afford. Women are having babies that they can not afford to take care of, where as they themselves are not well taken care of.  Swift paints a picture for you as you read, of these babies just over a year old crawling behind their mothers so helplessly up to their early teens, on the streets starving, malnourished looking, begging for food, money and help. He prompts the idea of taking these innocent poor children, who aren't going to make it far by living this life style poorly, and selling them to plump them up and eat at a prime age.

  Is his suggestion serious?  If not, what is the purpose?  What is he making fun of?
~ It was hard for me to follow swifts essay on this subject. As I caught what he was prompting to state his scheme to help solve this issue, I just could not take it seriously. I personally did not take him seriously, nor do I think he was being serious. I feel as if he was proving a point, he made valid points explaining what it would be like and why. However I believe he was trying to get the point across that either way you are killing your children, innocent people. Even if this seems so far fetch they are dying off anyways, they can not seem to stop producing even though they fail to provide when they are born, therefore instead of dying off from disease, malnourishment or staying in this unlivable life style themselves, and later adding to the problem by producing more.

 Is his solution logical?  What kind of evidence does he give to support his position?
~ I think swift did a great job as to convincing you to think its logical. He had evidence to comparing it to ways we live now, breeding and living off of animals. However no I did not find this logical.

 

'It's not complicated'

I chose this commercial because it's the first one that came to mind. Recently these AT&T commercials have my boyfriend and I cracking up. The audience would be a parent or anyone who loves kids, which is a pretty big audience I would say. It totally draws you in by the funny innocent things that the kids are saying. It isn't some bogus skinny girl eating a big mac, i think we all roll our eyes at that like 'ya right'. This is a innocent commercial as to what a child would answer, so that draws you in makes you laugh the entire time. Then at the end they keep it simple by saying, AT&T Doing two things at once - 'It's not complicated' is their logo on every commercial. It just sticks with you, however it wasn't effective for me because I already have a cell phone. But if I didn't they would have drew me in.
