tenative thesis

In the text ‘A modest proposal’ by Jonathan Swift, the issue brought to light is the over population in the early 1700’s. Swift proposes his idea that the lower class sell their infant children to the rich as food, he argues how this would not only lessen the burden of them, but help the public. Stating “..that a young healthy child well nursed is at a year old a most delicious, nourishing, and wholesome food, whether stewed, roasted, baked, or boiled”. Although Swift’s idea is unrealistic by nature and sarcastic, he sure raises quite an argument while bringing the issue to light.

  1. Deanna,
This is a great section for the your opening paragraph, however, I am left uncertain of what your potential argument (thesis) may be. It is obvious that based on what Swift wrote about and his ideas, no matter how outlandish, that there would be some sort of uproar amongst the people of Ireland who were going to an economic struggle at that time. As you stated above, it did in fact bring the issues to light but where in the section provided is your argument and what side do you intend to support?
